Roblox & Gen Alpha Slang Glossary for Parents

February 18, 2026·8 min read

If your kid sounds like they're speaking a different language, they probably are. Gen Alpha slang (kids born after 2010) evolves weekly, driven by TikTok, YouTube, and Roblox. Here's a guide to what they're actually saying.

Pro tip: Don't try to use these words yourself. Your kid will cringe. Just understand them.

The Big Ones (You'll Hear These Daily)

Skibidi

Meaning: Can mean good, bad, cool, weird, or chaotic — entirely context-dependent.
Origin: "Skibidi Toilet," a bizarre YouTube animated series about toilets with heads fighting cameras with heads. It's absurdist humor.
Example: "That was so skibidi" (could be a compliment or insult)

Brainrot

Meaning: (1) Low-quality internet content that "rots your brain." (2) Something so absurd or catchy it sticks in your head.
Example: "I have brainrot from that song" or "This game is pure brainrot"
Note: Can be both criticism AND a compliment. Kids embrace brainrot content ironically.

Rizz

Meaning: Charisma, charm, especially the ability to flirt or attract someone.
Origin: Short for "charisma"
Example: "He's got rizz" (he's charming) or "W rizz" (impressive charm)

Sigma

Meaning: An independent, lone-wolf type who doesn't follow the crowd. Confident in being different.
Example: "She's so sigma" (she does her own thing)
Related: "Sigma grindset" — the mentality of working hard independently

Gyatt

Meaning: Expression of excitement or surprise, or describing someone attractive (originally referencing body shape).
Origin: Corruption of "God damn"
Example: "Gyatt, that view is amazing!"

Ohio

Meaning: Something weird, odd, cursed, or cringey.
Origin: Memes portraying Ohio as a strange, lawless place
Example: "Why is he acting so Ohio?" (why is he being weird?)

Fanum Tax

Meaning: Taking food from someone else's plate/meal.
Origin: Twitch streamer Fanum, known for taking food from his roommates
Example: "I'm claiming fanum tax on your fries"

Red Flag Terms to Know

These aren't necessarily bad on their own, but if you hear them in certain contexts, pay attention:

  • "Add me on Discord/Snap" — Moving conversation off Roblox. This is how predators escape platform moderation.
  • "Free Robux" — Always a scam. No exceptions.
  • "Condo" or "Scented con" — Code for inappropriate/sexual Roblox games.
  • "E-dating" or "E-BF/E-GF" — Online dating. Worth a conversation if your child mentions this.
  • "Don't tell your parents" — Immediate red flag in any context.

How Slang Evolves

Gen Alpha slang moves faster than any previous generation because of TikTok and YouTube. A term can go from obscure to universal to "cheugy" (outdated) within weeks.

Where new slang comes from:

  • TikTok trends and sounds
  • YouTube creators (especially Roblox and gaming channels)
  • Twitch streamers
  • Meme communities (Reddit, Discord)
  • Roblox games themselves

Best approach: When you hear a word you don't know, just ask. "What does that mean?" Kids usually enjoy explaining their language to clueless parents. It's a connection point, not an interrogation.

A Note on "Brainrot" Content

You might be concerned that your child's humor seems absurd or nonsensical. That's intentional. Gen Alpha embraces "brainrot" — purposely chaotic, weird content — as a form of ironic humor. It's not a sign something's wrong. Every generation has had humor that baffled their parents.

The content to actually worry about isn't weird — it's the stuff that seems designed to move kids off-platform (to Discord, Snapchat) or involves adults being overly friendly with children.
